Friday Photo: Winter Tree
While the rest of the world is experiencing extremely low temperatures and plenty of snow and wintry weather, I’m stuck in dreary drizzle. Which means I’m longing for genuine winter. I love the lines of this tree; the way the white snow lays on the dark green and creates an interesting perspective of shade. A simple photo that says a lot.
Here’s to some snow…
Winter Sunset
Frost covered the ground for the larger part of the day, a white dusting remaining in cold corners protected by the shade of trees. Typical Pacific Northwest gray rain clouds were traded for clear winter skies, a brisk nip in the air. On beautiful days like this, it’s clear that the evening landscape shouldn’t be missed, and we packed up a thermos of tea and headed for one of the many rocky beaches of the Puget Sound.
Quiet and clear, as afternoon turned into dusk, the seasonal sun set, with warm colors reflecting off of soft clouds, turning the sky into a winter painting. With the setting sun, the air turned colder, and steam rose from our tea cups as we looked out over the calm waters and breathed in the winds of the season.
That’s how you should spend Christmas Day…
Friday Photo: Direction

I got up early on Saturday morning to take a walk, strolling down the small streets before most of the town was out of bed. I captured the still, morning moment in this weather vane, which stood still in the calm before the storm. The photo sort of fits with the name of this blog, je vais où?, a simplified way of asking “where am I going” in French. At a time of a lot of transition it was exactly what I needed to capture on film, forcing me to ask myself “what direction are you headed in?”…
The Best Camera: Photography For All

I had the sincere pleasure of meeting photographer Chase Jarvis the other night and had a very interesting talk about the ability of social media tools to democratize art, making it more accessible to all and encouraging everyone to explore their creativity. He recently authored The Best Camera is the One That’s With You, and from it has come a website and iPhone app that lets users shoot, edit and publish their images. The concept is cool, and although I’ve had my qualms about phone cameras, I’ve got to say that I like it a whole lot more than I expected. So here’s my first photo. You can check out other user submitted photos as TheBestCamera.com.
