Friday Photo: Fisherman’s Wharf

I took this in San Francisco back in September; pretty obvious if you look at the name of the boat in the background. I’m surprised the seagull let me get him on film without flying away.

Happy Friday!

Friday Photo: Keeping the Dark Hours Light

December is around the corner, which means time for Swedish celebration of advent and lots of candles to keep the dark hours well lit. In this photo, I love the shadow that is created around the base of the candle, making it look almost like the sun spitting off luminous rays.

Friday Photo: Saint Mary Falls

I love this photo taken at one of the falls not far from Saint Mary Lake in Glacier National Park last weekend. An excellent trip, especially since most of the park attractions were shut down for the season and we practically had the park to ourselves. Definitely a great time of year to go visit.

Salmon in Eagle Creek

leave a comment »

Spent Saturday hiking Eagle Creek Trail in the Columbia Gorge where dozens of salmon were attempting to swim upstream. That section of the creek is basically the end of their run, meaning there were already a few dead fish floating in the water. Somehow I managed to get these three on camera… how they made it over that ledge of rocks in their exhausted state is beyond me. Being that close to them reminded me of how important they are to our ecosystem, which is why we should do all we can to support them.

Friday Photo: Middle of Nowhere, Oregon

So sometimes, this is what my job looks like. We were in a small ghost town in southern Oregon to do a photo shoot, and what you can’t get from this picture is the great Cuban music that was blaring from the speakers. A classic moment.

Friday Photo: Fall in Oregon

I took this shot last weekend while working on the Wend photo shoot (that’s why today’s FP over at Wend is oh so similar…). The picture is of the North Umpqua River, with some gorgeous fall leaves in the foreground.

Earth From Above

leave a comment »

One of my favorite photographers, Yann Arthus Bertrand, is bringing his work to the US in 2009. Bertrand’s aim is to inspire people to think globally about sustainable living and he does so by taking his art to the sky. Shooting from airplanes, Bertrand manages to capture impressive shots that visually teach us about environments around the globe.

His new exhibit, Earth From Above, will feature 150 4-ft. by 6-ft. prints, on display in New York City from May 1 2009 to June 28, 2009. The exhibit will then take off for the other coast and be displayed in California. Another excellent example of artwork meant to change our perspectives on how we live and interact with the world around us.
