Friday Photo: Urban Heart

A classic shot from a classic city (San Francisco if you couldn’t tell), and although I am not the biggest advocate of Valentine’s Day, I figured this image was fitting.

Friday Photo: Stop Driving

This is such a classic Portland photo, I just couldn’t help putting it up!
Friday Photo: Winter in the Columbia Gorge

I spent last weekend in Salt Lake City running around Outdoor Retailer meeting an overwhelming number of people from the outdoor industry. Although incredibly hectic, it was a fun time, and topped off by a slightly crazy drive back, consisting of icy roads and an overnight stay in La Grande (funnier when said with a Spanish accent).
This photo was taken just outside of The Dalles in the Columbia Gorge; a beautiful winter day.
Friday Photo: Ski Tracks

I know it seems that I have given up on this blog, but I haven’t! I just needed to take a break from technology over the last few weeks to re-energize and re-focus my creative efforts. But now I am back, with lots of good ideas and a healthy creative spirit; let’s hope it brings me good things in 2009…
As for the photo: somehow we managed to get an unheard of amount of snow over Christmas, so I dusted off my cross country skis that had been in storage and took them out on an adventure back and forth across the field at my parents’. There’s something special about being able to ski in your own backyard.
Runner-up in the Guardian’s December photo contest!

I was happy to find out yesterday that the above photo (taken in Glacier National park) was selected as a runner-up in the Guardian’s December Been There photo contest . The first-place winner was an incredible picture taken in India. You can check it out here.
Friday Photo: Winter Sun

It’s been a wintry week in Portland… and this is one of my favorite shots!
Sounds of Travel: Air’s ‘Ce Matin La’
My latest Sounds of Travel is up over at Gadling. I wrote about one of my favorite bands and songs, Ce Matin La by the French duo Air. It’s hard to listen to it without being put in a good mood.
Here’s an excerpt:
For me, traveling music has to provide a good background. It has to to flow with your up and down emotions, fit a variety of situations, but be distinct enough that it brings back memories when you return home. For that reason, in my last post I wrote about St. Germain, which is one of my favorite artists to listen to while traveling. Along those same lines comes Air, another electronica-inspired group that hails from France.
As I wrote about St. Germain, music like this immediately takes me back to living in France; I can envision the first time and place that I listened to either of these two groups. But Air is a little more than that, the duo’s second album Moon Safari has become my traveling soundtrack — no matter what the destination — and my song of choice is Ce Matin La.

Friday Photo: Winter Jars

This was taken at my parents’ house over Thanksgiving. My mother had creatively placed these mason jars on a metal table on our patio, and the morning air had fogged them up which I thought was really beautiful.
Happy Friday!
